Twilight sketches

We have since moved to another part of the Netherlands. The landscape has changed from sea and beach to forest and heather. Just like Zeeland, a wonderful walking area.

There are certainly mornings when I don't feel like going for a walk. Especially this week it was dark, cold and raining. But there was never a time when I came back and I even regretted going on those winter mornings when I came back drenched in the rain.

My daily walk is my walking meditation, my ritual to get my body moving, get some fresh air into my lungs and take some time to get away from it moving and get inspired. And there is enough !!

The walks I take there are so varied and so beautiful. The sloping landscape with the many forests provides beautiful brown, purple, gray and black tones in this gloomy weather. I regularly make sketches of these atmospheric compositions, which I later elaborate on handmade paper 30x30 cm with pen, ink, watercolor and oil pastels.

This landscape and the colors bring me back to the beautiful Scottish Highlands, which evoke the same feelings. A feeling that cannot be expressed in words and that is why I have just started portraying these feelings.

I think a poem (sorry in Dutch!) by Henriette Roland Holst accurately depicts this sketch:
