Arkemheen polder landscape 5
A plein air painting in the Arkemheenpolder.
The Arkemheenpolder is one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands. The polder is exceptional because there has never been any land consolidation. The original allotment structure is still present with winding ditches that originated as gullies from the tidal currents of the Zuiderzee. On the landward side of the former sea dikes are gullies and reed marshes, created by dike breaches.
In this polder I regularly go to paint, because nature is so wonderfully beautiful. This painting was made in August and is part of a series Arkemheenpolder. The yellow colors dominate, because it has been warm and dry for some time. With thick paint I captured the atmosphere of the landscape in a smooth style.
